Iron
Iron is harder and less malleable the copper, rusts and has a reddish tint.
Iron forms most of earth’s outer and inner core and as such is very abundant. It has a higher melting temperature than copper, leading to it being used later in history. It is also harder and less malleable than copper and as such needs more technology in order to form it into objects. Once the technology was available to work iron, it became prevalent in society because of its hardness. It can be hammered or cast into various shapes.
